Recently the Office of Congressman Lone District of Iligan declared the winners of the first Indigay sa Talamnan. Rogongon Agricultural School got the first place in the school based category, second place is awarded to the Suarez Central School, and for third place goes to Taluntunan Elementary School of Barangay Pugaan.
While in the Barangay Community based first placer is the Upper Tominobo Farmers Association, Upper Pindugangan Farmers Association at the second place, and the third place is Ampucao Farmers Association
Indigay sa Talamnan is a competition for Best Garden for sustainable agro-tourism, open for School and Community based gardens.
According to Congressman Frederick Siao he will focus on agro-tourism, “Nasayod kita nga ang Iligan City usa sa adunay lapad nga land area sa Mindanao. Sa total land area niini, around 20% lang ang na-develop,” Congressman Frederick Siao Said.
Agriculture is the potential of the city that needs to be developed, this includes organic farming, backyard and school gardening and community farming.
“Sa Iligan, duna na kitay existing nga cut-flower industry, duna nay abaca ug coffee,” Congressman Frederick Siao said.
This event is created to awaken the consciousness on the importance of agriculture, organic farming, community agricultural plants propagation, like ornamental, cut-flower, and the so called herbal or medicinal plants.
