COURT OF APPEALS THROWS OUT OMBUDSMAN CASE VS REP. SIAO

26 January 2018 | news release

The Court of Appeals has “reversed and set aside” the graft case the Office of the Ombudsman for Mindanao filed against Iligan City Lone District Representative Frederick W. Siao

In a decision promulgated on January 19, 2018 the Special 23rd Division of the Court of Appeals said the Ombudsman “no longer had disciplinary authority over Siao by the time it promulgated its assailed decision on 13 June 2016.”

Siao was proclaimed as Member of the House of Representatives on May 10, 2016.

The charge stems from a contested September 2004 resolution of the city council of Iligan City. Back then, Siao was serving as city councilor.

“Now that this Ombudsman case is over and done with, I can focus completely on my work as congressman for the residents of Iligan City instead of wasting precious time and energy on court battles,” Siao said in reaction to the court ruling.  (END)
